Dan Liu – encouraging innovation at every step

Quality Assurance professional Dan initially moved to Aotearoa for New Zealand’s great nature environment as well as the education system provided here. She soon found out there were plenty of other benefits.

On graduating in her native China, Dan started out as a software developer. But it wasn’t long before she discovered that her real passion lay in QA, and she switched careers accordingly.

Then after starting a family, Dan found herself wanting more flexibility and freedom in her career, and more scope for her son’s education. So she moved to Aotearoa New Zealand, and hasn’t looked back since.

“When I first came to New Zealand, I was surprised at how modern and on the edge the technology is here,” she says. “It’s a country that is very good at adopting and creating new solutions.”

Dan soon found that there were plenty of opportunities in her professional life, across R&D, data analytics, green tech, fintech, and especially gaming, which she truly believes is world class.

“Since arriving here I feel that I grow every day, with less pressure. As a result, I feel I have developed not only my technical skills, but also knowledge that is invaluable in both the local and global industry.”

Dan enjoys the friendly work culture here too, with a work ethic focused on mutual respect and encouraging innovation at every step of the process – values also reflected in her son’s experiences at school.

“We migrated to Aotearoa New Zealand as a family together. We’re all impressed by the education here – it’s free and every individual student is treated with respect and care. Plus of course it is a wonderful place for my child to grow up.”

It’s no surprise that Dan and her family love the great outdoors. “It’s a five minute walk to the beach, a ten minute drive to the forest. I just love working and living here,” she adds.
