May marks New Zealand Music Month, a month that celebrates our vibrant and diverse music community. In partnership with the New Zealand Music Commission, we're showcasing Kiwi talent making soundwaves in the global music industry by bringing you a fact a day in May. Here are a few New Zealanders, we think you might have heard of to get the ball rolling.
He is a Grammy Award winning, Golden Globe nominated, multi-platinum certified songwriter, producer, and musician. He has produced and co-written hits with some of the biggest stars in the world, including Lorde, Taylor Swift, Khalid, and Imagine Dragons. His work has amassed over one billion streams collectively. And now he’s giving back. Alongside wife Georgia, they’re building Big Fan, a two-year construction project that will turn a former factory into a multi-purpose musical empire, one that is hoped to provide foundational support for New Zealand’s music industry.
She is an award-winning choreographer and dancer. Parris is known for working with some of the biggest names in the music industry, from Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna to Justin Bieber. She has her own Masterclass, has been awarded an order of merit, and was New Zealand's entertainment and cultural curator at Expo2020 in Dubai.
He has opened for Skrillex, and the Foo Fighters, was the DJ on BBC Radio 1 and has picked up a Grammy nomination for his work producing Sam Smith's album ‘In the Lonely Hour’. He is now Apple Music's front man hosting The Zane Lowe Show, where he candidly interviews the world's biggest stars in music.
