When you became a FernMark Licensee, you aligned your brand and products with our national brand – the FernMark. And we are always on the lookout, as guardians of the FernMark and your right to use it.
To maintain the integrity of the FernMark, we are committed to protecting our national symbol and enhancing its value and reputation. We do this by our monitoring and enforcement activities, as well as by ongoing attention to growing our international trademark coverage.
FernMark Protection
To protect and safeguard the FernMark, we take a two-pronged approach:
FernMark Enhancement
To further strengthen and enhance the reach of the FernMark, we periodically review our trademark coverage, based on the jurisdictions where we have applications or registrations and the classes of goods and services covered.
We do this with our Licensees in mind - considering the markets, industries and types of goods and services that are important to our members, and to New Zealand exporters generally. We cannot file everywhere for all classes of goods and services, so we need to prioritise.
In 2019 we started a project to extend our trademark coverage and the FernMark now has protection in various classes in 23 countries, including key export markets like Australia, Europe, China, Japan, the US and the UK.
